Since the dawn of civilization, dance has been renewing the social bond, nourishing personal and collective well-being and animating healing practices. Here is the inspiration for Dance Movement Therapy (Dmt).
Dmt was born in the 1940s. Now it is supported by a clear theoretical background and by national and international associations. In Italy, the discipline is ruled by the law 4/2013 and the UNI Standard no.11592:2015.
Dmt is applied in several fields: personal development, psychiatric rehabilitation, developmental age, old age, disabilities, training of helping professions.
The Relational approach to DMT (Dmt-ER®) restores in a contemporary key the traditional social function of dance. Dmt-ER® methodology is based on Laban / Bartenieff Movement Studies, Group Analysis and the rhythmic suggestion of Expression Primitive.
Vincenzo Bellia MD has developed Dmt-ER® along the nineties. Quoting Marian Chace, pioneer of DMT, we can say that Dmt-ER® promotes the participation of individuals in the group and puts again into play the evolution of the body image, which is "primarily a social creation".
Dance is the core of Dmt-ER®. Dance is a creative game that nourishes everyone's identity and enriches the collective heritage. Rhythm plays a fundamental role, because it connects the individual with the outside world. Here is the fundamental intuition of Dmt-ER®, both philosophical and methodological: the path towards the self-development always passes by the other human being.
